More than 3 years in the making, Karoo Origins: the Fossil Centre in Graaff-Reinet features animations, sculptures, illustrations and other displays.
What made this project thrilling was the blank page we were handed. That combined with the challenge of telling relatable stories of deep time meant we were constantly learning.
We were given access to the foremost scientists in Verterbrate Paleontology which meant out work was peer reviewed by several panels of scientists across the globe. This has resulted in the most up to date Permian centre in the world.
Built around the Rubidge fossil collection, which consists mainly of therapsid fossils from between 255 and 248 million years ago, the exhibition tells the story of life on Earth, the evolution of mammals, the late Permian mass extinction and how this relates to the world today.
